OTTAWA – Today former NDP MP John Brewin (Victoria, BC, 1988 – 1993) endorsed Paul Dewar’s NDP leadership bid.

“I am pleased to endorse Paul for leadership of the NDP. I like Paul. And Canadians will like him,” said John Brewin. “As leader and as a prospective Prime Minister, Paul will offer the best that we are. Internationalist in experience and perspective, intelligent, principled, hard-working and empathetic, Paul embodies the kind of Canada we want to become”.

John Brewin is a labour lawyer and a long-timed New Democrat. He is the co-author of Free Collective Bargaining: Human Right or Canadian Illusion. His father, Andrew Brewin, was a long-time CCF member and an NDP MP in downtown Toronto (Greenwood, ON, 1962 – 1979).

In announcing his endorsement, Mr. Brewin highlighted his support for Paul Dewar’s plan to focus on winning the next 70 seats the NDP needs to form a majority government.

"I am enthusiastic about Paul's plan to win the next 70 seats the NDP needs to form a majority government in Canada,” said Brewin. That is exactly where the focus of our new leadership should be."
